Tree friends from the Paris suburbs, Thomas Hervé, Jean-Marc Lazzari and Marc Félix; regular participants on the beach run on the other side of the Atlantic or on the Pacific coast, in England and Denmark, have pooled their passion and energy to organize in France a similar event on Sword Beach in Normandy.
Sword, commonly known as Sword Beach, was the code name given to one of the five main landing areas along the Normandy coast during the initial assault phase, Operation Neptune, of Operation Overlord. The Allied invasion of German-occupied France commenced on 6 June 1944. Stretching 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from Ouistreham to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, the beach proved to be the easternmost landing site of the invasion after the abortion of an attack on a sixth beach, code-named Band.
Even though this is the youngest show of this character, it already gained the name of one of the most spectacular beach race events in Europe.
According to the organisers over three days back in 2021, this event attracted close to 100,000 spectators from all over the world.

In August of 1924 Capt. Malcolm Campbell took his 350Hp Sunbeam "Blue Bird" to the Fanø International Speed Trials. The speed track was located on the beach of the island of Fanø, in the North Sea off the coast of southwestern Denmark.
Campbell had already taken part in the Danish Automobile Club’s international Speed Trials at Fanø in June of 1923, setting a record of 143 mi/h (230 km/h) which was not officially recognised by the international authorities because of the electronic timing equipment used by the Danes. One year later he modified the car with a longer, streamlined tail and new fairings to the body and suspension. The Sunbeam was repainted in Campbell's favorite shade of blue and christened "Blue Bird", the same as his pre-war racing cars.
Although drivers from all Continental nations came to Fanø beach, in 1924 the event was not successful. The weather had been very stormy and the sands were in poor condition, littered with debris of all kinds, and the control of the spectators was poor. On Saturday, 23 August 1924, after a couple of abortive practice attempts, on his first run, Campbell put up an average speed of 138 mi/h (222 km/h). Suddenly, both rear tyres of his car were ripped off and he narrowly missed the crowd, managing with amazing skill to keep the car from slewing round and turning over. Campbell protested to the officials about the standards of safety.
Later his team changed the beaded-edge tyres with which the car was fitted, with wired-edge tyres and he had another shot. But once again the same thing happened, this time a front tyre came off Blue Bird at 140 mi/h (225.2 km/h) halfway down the measured mile and made straight for the crowd. The out of control car just missed a photographer who was kneeling down, and was nearly destroyed crashing into the timing hut. It sailed 100 feet into the air before bounding into the sea, being eventually recovered almost a mile away.
Aage Borck Clausen was a boy scout who along with two friends had a job as a runner during the 1924 Fanø races, and the three of them were standing near the judge's box when the wheel came off Campbell's Sunbeam and hit them, fatally injuring Clausen. The other boy who was hit was Niels Marius Jepsen, Clausen's mate. He only injured his foot.
The current renaissance of racing at the Lakolk Strand, Rømø, began back in 2016. Only cars and motorcycles from before 1947 are allowed to participate.
The very idea behind this festival is to honour and commemorate the history of the races on Fanø.

'Chasing the Waves' is the sequel to 'Sand Salt Speed' and encapsulates in pictures, the atmosphere, the characters and the vehicles which make Race the Waves a unique automotive attraction within the UK vintage motoring calendar.
This is a high-quality customisable photography book ( 28cm X 19 cm), printed in Germany by SAAL DIGITAL
Bridlington lies on the East Coast of Yorkshire and within a 30 minute drive from Filey, which in 1905, hosted the first UK Land Speed Trials on the 3 miles of tidal beach. The following year, the Speed Trials were relocated to a much longer beach and only a little further up the coast at Saltburn-By-The-Sea. Motorcycle racing was introduced to the Yorkshire beaches in the early 1920s.
Similar motor racing events were taking place in America too, but a change was on the horizon when a dozen veterans of WW II formed The Oilers Car Club in 1947. With the knowledge gained from their experiences in the military, these guys customised and modified in particular, 1920s & 30s Ford cars and began racing them in an area East of LA / California, the Mojave desert. This particular post-war era along with the recent rejuvenation of The Oilers C.C. gave birth to the modern vintage beach-races we know today.
Once a year when the tide allows, the clock is turned back at the ancient coastal settlement at Bridlington. The town becomes home to mechanical enthusiasts and eccentrics who have a particular passion towards building, modifying, exhibiting and racing their old vehicles. Most vehicles are of designs from years long past and some can at best be described as marvels of mechanical engineering.
Race The Waves is a celebration of the Yorkshire coast motorsport heritage and embraces the racing culture from the Post War American street, desert and dry lakes races.

In order to minimise the price of the book I have decided not to sign and number this edition. This will minimise the postal expenses from the printing house to my home, and then posting it to the person that purchasing it.

“Danish Beach Stories” is a high-quality customisable photography book ( 28cm X 19 cm), printed in Germany by SAAL DIGITAL, dedicated to the 2022 “RØMØ MOTOR FESTIVAL” race in Rømø (Lakolk Strand)/Denmark.
It's not just paper and ink. It is distilled memories in the form of a book.
The racing originally took place on Fanø’s beach in the early 1920s but came to a sudden stop when the speed record holder Sir Malcolm Campbell (more than 240km/h on the sand!) lost a tyre while attempting another record. This tyre killed a young spectator and was the very reason beach racing at Fanø was banned.
The current renaissance of racing at the Lakolk Strand, Rømø, began back in 2016. Only cars and motorcycles from before 1947 are allowed to participate.
This book is my attempt to capture this unique amalgamation of historical engineering and modern spirit.
None of this would be possible without Steffen Gödecke / Chris Gregor and the team Harley-Davidson Hamburg Nord
A massive THANK YOU for being a small part of this great experience!
I would also like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all the participants and organisers for being part of this unique experience. It's you guys that make it worthwhile!

“Sand, Salt, Speed” is a high-quality photography book ( 28cm X 19 cm), printed in Germany dedicated to the 2022 “Race the Waves” beach race in Bridlington /United Kingdom
In 1947 at the Mojave desert, East of LA / California, a dozen WW2 veterans formed a car club called THE OILERS, where the guys customised their 1930s FORD model A's and began drag racing them. It is from this time the American 'Hot-Rod' was born.
Those early races in the Mojave desert are the inspiration for the vintage beach races we know today. The modern beach race provides people with a passion for vintage bikes and cars to gather and escape from our technological world in favour of using their basic mode of transport and to race it to its limit.
In the United Kingdom, there is such a place, where the Yorkshire coast motor racing heritage is brought back to life on the beach. For one weekend in the year, the small coastal town of Bridlington offers its firm tidal sand to folk from across Europe and the UK, who gather and test their vehicles in the challenging elements which only Mother Nature can provide. Bridlington lies on the coastal boundary of the East Riding of Yorkshire and is only a 30minutes drive south of Filey, which hosted the first UK Land Speed Trials in 1905 on the three mile stretch of beach. Until relatively recent times, Filey was also within the East Riding. In 1906 the UK Land Speed Record attempts were relocated further north to Saltburn By The Sea, where the distance was improved by having five miles of hard and firm tidal sand.
BACKFIRE's Race the Waves at Bridlington, is a unique 'Theatre of Auto-Motion' where the Yorkshire Coast motor sport heritage is combined with the influences from the American street races of the post-war era.
This book is my attempt to capture and preserve this unique atmosphere using the language of photography.

This entirely self-funded personal project is my attempt to present something almost impossible to describe in writing. That is also one of the reasons why there is almost no text on these pages.
However, there is one single word that can describe what you are about to see in this book.
For me, serendipity is that moment in time and space when visually interesting things happen in a natural way, and collectively they create a visual outcome that exists only in that very unique instant.
“The French Way of Serendipity” is a high-quality photography book dedicated to the 2021 Normandy Beach Race in Ouisterham / France, available in two different sizes:
LARGE ( 29cm X 29cm ) that contains 68 photographs over 70 pages.
SMALL ( 19cm X 19cm ) that contains 37 photographs over 36 pages.
